Meet the Founder

Michael Downing | Founder, SimpliCyte

SimpliCyte was founded by Michael Downing, a computational scientist and software engineer with more than a decade of experience developing image analysis solutions for biological research.

Throughout his career, Michael worked alongside researchers using advanced microscopy, multiplex imaging, and AI-driven analysis. While the capabilities of these technologies continued to grow, so did the complexity of the software required to use them. Too much time was spent building workflows, moving data between tools, and troubleshooting pipelines instead of answering biological questions.

SimpliCyte was created to change that. By combining modern software engineering and AI with deep experience in computational biology and image analysis, the platform is designed to make powerful image analysis more intuitive, reproducible, and accessible to researchers.

I founded SimpliCyte because I believe image analysis software should be simple. Simple to use. Simple to understand. Science is hard enough. When workflows are simplified through careful, intentional design, scientists are free to focus on discovery.
